just escape…
Even taking just a moment... to see the beauty, to feel the light surround you, to breathe, to let go... can bring you peace.
Sunset on Moosehead Lake
Every vacation, for close to 20 years, I would drive up the hill from the lake house we rented to watch the sun set over the mountains. The sky was different for every single one. It was almost like watching a play unfold... how will the sun set over the mountains today?
By the ocean in York Beach, Maine
Maine has such a rocky coast, and there is a section of flat rocks across from the Nubble Lighthouse, where you can just sit and hear the waves move in and out. On this particular day the sun was warming the rocks as the cool breeze came in from the ocean.
Bell Rock, Sedona
It was a surprise to wake up to close to 5 inches of snow in Sedona in February. As quickly as the snow came, it started to melt, but the sky alone seems to tell the story.
Chapel of the Holy Cross, Sedona
The Chapel of the Holy Cross is built into the red rocks of Sedona. The sun was more than welcome after a cold snowy day. Sedona is such a spiritual place, and I think this picture captures that well.
Lake Wassookeag, Dexter, Maine
This image was a gift. I was driving through the mountains in Maine and turned the corner to see the sun set over the lake. It was so quiet and serene.
Sedona, Arizona
There is just something about the red rocks against the blue sky that makes the air easier to breathe.
Schnebly Hill Road, Sedona
Very quiet, very beautiful...
Sedona, Arizona
I love this picture with the snow on the red rocks. I think they look like gingerbread mountains with powdered sugar sprinkled over the top. It was so quiet and still.
Devil's Bridge, Sedona
This tree is on Devil's bridge in Sedona, which is a red stone arch. It looks out over Boynton Canyon. I think the trees in Sedona remind me of the journey our lives take and how we overcome struggles to survive.
Loon on Moosehead Lake, Maine
This picture was 20 years in the making. I am either that patient or that slow. I would follow the loons around the lake in a kayak for hours at a time. As they would dive under the water, I would lose sight of them and would have to predict where they would surface next. You can't get too close to them, or they immediately duck under the water again. Finally, I was in the right place at the right time with the right camera, and I captured this shot. Somehow, this picture just makes me feel free.
Moosehead Lake sunset
Another favorite sunset over my favorite lake. The colors this particular evening in August were spectacular. And yes, the next day on the water was equally as beautiful.
Moosehead Lake, Maine
My daughter took this picture from her last visit to Maine. I just breathe in this picture, the beauty is too much to put into words.
Moosehead Lake, Maine
I think this is one of the most perfect pictures that encapsulates a great day at the lake. Beautiful sunset, calm water, kayaks, and a dock that seems to beckon you closer. Just feels like home.
Just pick a place and escape. These are some of my favorites... where I can feel beauty touch my soul.
